✨ Good Friday Reflection ✝️🧎🏾‍♂️

Isaiah 53:6 AMP
⁶All of us like sheep have gone astray, We have turned, each one, to his own way; But the Lord has caused the wickedness of us all [our sin, our injustice, our wrongdoing] To fall on Him [instead of us].

The Name

Why “Good Friday” at all?
Good Friday can sound like a strange title for a day marked by betrayal, loss, anguish, and grief. Nothing about the events themselves feels “good” in the way we use the word today.

But in older forms of English, “good” was often used to mean “holy.” 
So Good Friday was essentially ‘Holy Friday’ a day set apart, a day unlike any other.

With that in mind, the reflections of this morning settled even deeper in my heart.

Waking Up in Awe

Earlier today, my wife and I were talking about the beauty, the love, and the sacrifice of Jesus; the care He took in laying down His life for us.

And as we talked, I found myself in awe again. Awe and wonder at the sheer goodness of Abba Father, and the love of our Lord Jesus Christ, our beloved Saviour.

Last night I’d watched The Chosen ‘The Last Supper’ episodes and I really appreciate how that series brings the culture and humanity of those days to life. Yes, there’s some creative filling‑in, but it stays anchored in Scripture, and it stirs something deep in me.

The Plan From the Beginning

I often think about that moment before Eden, before Adam and Eve, before the serpent whispered; when the Trinity already saw the whole story.

– They already saw the fall. 
– They already saw the betrayal. 
– They already saw the Cross.

And They said, “This is how We will put it right.”

Now you and I can blame Adam and Eve for the mess created (and many still do) all we want, but truthfully, most of us would have got into the same muddle in one way or another. After all, even now, knowing the truth and walking in the light, we still stumble.

The Weight Jesus Carried

Then I think of Jesus Himself, the only sinless One, the only One qualified.

He could have said:

“I’ve done nothing wrong. 
I’ve resisted every temptation. 
I’ve healed the sick, opened blind eyes, raised the dead… 
and now I’m going to die for the mess humanity has made?”

Many of us would have said, “I’m sorry but, as much as I’d like to help out, I’m just not doing that.”

But God is not like us. 
His love is not like ours.

The Pain of Betrayal

And then there’s Judas the betrayer (there a blog post to write about him brewing).

Some of us know what betrayal feels like, even a small taste of it can break your heart. Jesus carried the full weight of it. Betrayed by someone He loved. Someone He walked with. Someone He trusted.

And still He went on. 
Still He submitted. 
Still He chose the Cross.

He could have called down legions of angels. 
He could have stopped the torture, the ridicule, the injustice. 
But love held Him there.

A Devotion That Brings You Close

So this morning, I turned to the YouVersion Easter devotion called ‘Walking With Jesus Through Easter’ and I honestly want to urge you to listen to today’s Good Friday edition (see link below). It’s only about ten minutes long, but it has a way of placing you right there in the story.

It puts you beside the fire where Peter stood. 
It puts you at the foot of the Cross. 
It draws you into the atmosphere of that day in a way that is simple, powerful, and deeply moving.

If you close your eyes and let your imagination follow, it’s almost as if you could be there.

YouVersion have done a great job with this one, and I strongly encourage you to take those ten minutes today. Let it speak to you. Let it steady you. Let it remind you.

A Prayer for Your Easter

As we step into this Easter weekend, my hope is that each of us finds space to reflect on our journey with Christ. The gratitude, the thankfulness, the mercy, the grace we’ve been shown.

May this Good Friday draw us deeper into the love that held Jesus to the Cross. 
May Easter Sunday lift our hearts again with resurrection hope. 
And may we never lose the wonder of what He has done for us.
