As I was drawn to Proverbs 27 by the Holy Spirit this morning, I found such richness of spiritual food and wisdom there. I found the first sentence of verse 25 especially enlightening.
“When the Grass is gone. The new growth is seen…”
This caused me to ponder over some of the previous thoughts and revelations that the Lord has put on my heart, along with the various experiences that I and many others I know have been or are still going through, over the past months.
Grass, like most things, goes through seasons. Sometimes outside influences also contribute towards changing the life of grass (think about bush fires that ravage areas of the world and the impact upon vegetation and grass alike). It never ceases to amaze me when I watch a nature programme and see such lush areas destroyed by such raging fires (often purely caused by heat alone – Reminds me of 1 Peter 1:7) and the hope that would seem to have been diminished by these events, only to see the hope and joy that comes with that, as new growth begins to grow. Whilst this may be a different process, lets also think of our everyday garden lawn. For those of you that have them and tend them, I ask; what happens when you cut your grass lawn? Does it die or does it show new growth?
So, I wondered upon this – how many of the situations that we face in life (and kick against – Acts 26:14) are part of God transitioning process for our lives. Maybe that decision we are taking to avoid changing a thought process in our lives, allowing a habitual action that we keep following to have the rule over us or our failure to Trust what God says about us and the future he has for us (Jeremiah 29:11-12).
Let us remember what Jesus told Andrew & Philip in John 12:24:

24 I assure you and most solemnly say to you, unless a grain of wheat falls into the earth and dies, it remains alone [just one grain, never more]. But if it dies, it produces much grain and yields a harvest.
So maybe its time for us to stop fighting and allow our grass to be cut back, in order that new growth can be seen.
